The harmony of this composition is very functional. The main theme revolves around a V7sus vamp which adds a modal touch the the otherwise bop oriented changes. It is common for the accompaniment to begin on IMaj7 and move diatonically through the key while the bass remains on the V pedal during the A's. Both B sections begin on IVMaj7 and continue with a  series of II - V's, although both sections have slightly different endings.
