The harmony of this composition is mainly functional. The A section begins with Imi - bII7, and continues with a II - V of bVIMaj7 before returning back to Imi with a V7. On the original recording the changes toward the end of the second A section differ slightly from the first, although in practice most musicians tend to treat all of the A sections the same. The bridge takes place in bII Major and revolves around IIImi7 - VI7 - IImi7 - V7. The melody is harmonized 3rds for most of the bridge on the original recording and this arrangement is oftentimes used in performances.
